Existem mais de 520 cartas atribuídas a Nichiren Shonin na edição padrão da era Showa, mas muitas delas não são autênticas — apenas 113 escritos são considerados genuínos. A edição da SGI está fora de questão; é preferível utilizar a coleção Writings of Nichiren Shonin, publicada pela University of Hawaii Press (NOPPA): http://www.uhpress.hawaii.edu/books.aspx
É importante ter atenção, pois alguns trechos dessas obras foram modificados de acordo com a doutrina própria da Nichiren Shu. Caso surjam dúvidas sobre algum trecho, confirme conosco.
Naturalmente, é essencial começar pelos cinco escritos principais de Nichiren, que são os mais importantes — especialmente o Kaimoku-shō e o Kanjin Honzon-shō.
Além disso, é preciso compreender que o próprio Nichiren Shonin afirmou que seus escritos anteriores ao exílio em Sado eram ensinamentos provisórios.
